Steven Milne (singer) commented on the track: “For me “Don’t Get Mad Get Even” is the sound of us as a band working together to turn the sketch of a song into something much greater, via collaboration. I can be quite bad for bringing songs quite late to the table with a finished idea in mind but on this occasion, the guys got hugely involved on the sounds, style, and feel of this track more than on any other song on the record. It became clear even from the early stages in the practice room and more so during the recording of the song that this would prove to be massively to the song’s benefit.
In the studio with so much vintage equipment to hand it felt natural for the song to employ the production route of a classic rock radio sound referencing warm well-recorded sounds and 70s sounding bands we like such as Midlake, Fleetwood Mac etc. and that’s what eventually informed the final recording which we are delighted with. Sometimes as a writer you can be too close to the material and in this case that’s certainly true – the guys got so excited about this song once it started to take shape they were adamant that when it was finished it had to be a single!”
